TARGET AUDIENCE

Primary – PR activity will seek to engage existing whisky and decanter consumers/wholesalers/retailers/bar owners in the release of the oak products

Secondary – PR activity will also seek to engage a recruitment audience of whisky connoisseurs who will be interested in maturing their own whisky base and increase brand visibility.

KEY MESSAGES

• Different from European oak and American white oak, Mongolian oak provides unique sweetness and a spicy taste profile to the spirit which matures in it.  It adds flavours of oriental incense, sandalwood and vanilla.
• Mongolian oak is Quercus Mongolica. Mizunara from Japan is a Mongolian oak subspecies.

Quercus Mongolica is the scientific name of the Mongolian oak species which belongs to the genus of Quercus. It is originally from North-East China and now grows also in Eastern Mongolia, Japan (Hokkaido), Korean Peninsula and Sakhahlin Island of Russia – all cold and windy areas.

Mizunara is a commercial name of Mongolian oak which is grown in Japan. It is not a scientific term. It was introduced to Japan a long time ago and cultivated. In 1930, Beam Suntory created the name Mizunara.
